I was curious about this when I saw it. The gameplay looked up my alley and I really loved the visuals. It's a bit of a shame that handheld is uncomfortable, but I might be able to put up with that, given that I spend most of my time playing in handheld. It seems to be a really creative game, especially in its weird designs, and I think I'll have to pick this one up sooner rather than later. Thanks for the review.
A simple player sprite or ship is pretty common in Shmups. It encourages you to pay more attention to the scenery. Also focusing too closely on your hit box isn’t a good strategy so the design choice could be to discourage players from playing like this
This has been on my steam watchlist for a while. I never did check the release date. I wonder if the character seems uninspired because it seems to be following a dreamlike premise and in my dreams I am always the most uninteresting thing.
Glad to see this get some coverage! I played this on PC late last year and was disappointed to see how little press it was getting. I really like it!
I wonder if there is some specific creative decision behind the protagonist being in 3D and everything else in 2D. Maybe something like it being symbolic of the protagonist's existence being rooted in physical reality and everything else originating from a dream world? Though maybe I'm just trying to overthink something that has no real reason behind it. 😆
