The Sega Genesis and Mega Drive are amazing 16-bit consoles with a huge fan base, but how do you get into collecting for …

Awesome video! This was very informative and helpful. The breakdown of how relatively few games represented a massive portion of the potential cost of collection was very insightful.
I have one minor nitpick (and it is INCREDIBLY minor), which is that the Earthworm Jim 2 logo was put over Earthworm Jim 1 footage in two separate instances. It really doesn't matter at the end of the day, I'm honestly not even sure why I'm pointing it out… …shit… am I "that guy"?
Seriously though, this was an excellent video. Top notch production and very well researched. Great job!
I wonder now if prices for sealed games will drop at all – I’ve never known a YouTuber or otherwise explain this so directly and within earshot of the general public 👍🏻
Brilliant video Mike! I can only imagine that the breakdown of the remaining games was painful to work out… that's a scary number haha
Right now I have a lot more going on for my SEGA GENESIS then every other system I got.
Awesome video thanks Mike. I like that you said just collect what you want. I don’t have the funds to own all the original collection but thanks to multi carts, and repro’s I pretty much have everything I want and I do have a few of the new games to which I love 😃
Why do people and companies do this "next year's date in the previous year" stuff? It isn't 2023, how could you possibly have a guide on a year that didn't happen yet?
Love your work. It's always great to know more about this.
Collect what makes you happy–cannot agree enough or push this message enough. And it transcends even game collecting, just because you collect one thing doesn't gate you off from collecting anything else!
I like the time you took to break down pricing into brackets–if you like following that, I think you'd really enjoy Super Nicktendo's channel, though he's in the US, you often looks at the way pricing changes in games and the whys.
Agree that old magazines are great ways to find games of interest to collect and they're just fun to collect!
Did not know that about the hang tab notch–that's awesome!
Great info on the "sealed" games too. Adore the clamshell info too–I really dig those tidbits of info like this.
You know I love new games for old systems–though you DO cost me a lot of money Mike with your fantastic reviews.
Great video. I knew that there were different claim shells for different companies, but I always forget about it when collecting. Sega Genesis is one of the few consoles I try and collect full in-box sets. All of the Nintendo consoles I just get loose cartridges.
An awesome video. I've always loved collecting for the Mega Drive, and now I'm going to the states, I'm getting loads of Genesis games to add to the collection. Some of my games might be repros, but I'm happy to have them as some games are so expensive there's no way for me to buy them otherwise. I've always loved the Mega Drive as it was my very first console after getting the Amiga, and I've so many fond memories of it. As a matter of fact I've started my eldest nephew on Mega Drive collecting as I gave him a spare console I had and he's loving it.
I see that you still didnt recieve your paprium copy…ffs.
You should see what Acclaim and Ecofilmes did here in Portugal lol. Games with genesis cartridges and manuals inside with reprinted PAL blue spine covers with the portuguese language on the back on a white square (bad printed and cuted) in some games, like X-Men 2 clone wars, Demolition Man, Batman Forever etc… and other times just the freaking genesis copys all around with a portuguese manual inside lol.
So if you see a Demolition Man on ebay with a Pal Blue Spine and a genesis cartridge and manual its not fake its just the "Portuguese edition" lol.
✌🏾
I think one of the best things about the mega drive today is all the new games for it. Tanzer, Xeno Crisis, Tanglewood, Paprium etc
I'm trying to wrap presents! By the end of the vid I had zero presents wrapped but 3 more megadrive games added to my ebay watch list 😀
Excellent video!
I've managed to recover my original 10 ish games collection from back in the day, and ended up buying a few more because in Portugal, during the 90's the Mega Drive was a huge craze and pretty much anyone and their Mother had one. Lot's of cheap games being sold here. The one that I'm having trouble to find at a real world price is Pirates of Dark Water. I sold all my games for 50 euros in the early 00's and this game alone is now worth thousands of euros on eBay… So I wonder how come you have so many copies of the game displayed in the vídeo?!!!
Loved the Sega Genesis then and now as well! Cool video!
You can make video about bootleg games in russia,it would be shock video for west gamers)
Great video!
Mike that’s an excellent point on “sealed” md games. I remember buying brand new games and they were never wrapped in plastic!
I mostly focus on in-house Sega titles, as well as trying to get some complete series (all the Strikes game from EA, all Turricans, etc) and following the current modern indie homebrew scene.
I never aimed for a complete set, although I now have plenty of Mega Drive/Genesis titles, all things considered.
I love your content and this video is extra on fire! Love it.
Fantastic content man
Best peripheral – Arcade power stick, but only if its the Japanese version 😉 so glad i got two of them
Here in the States, brand-new Sega Genesis games didn’t even come with stickers. Some stores would shrink-wrap the boxes, but it varied from retailer to retailer.
I used to collect games and consoles in my teens, 20s and early 30s then prices really shot up and lost interest in it, I'm quite happy playing my games on everdrive its easier, i have one for my Japan megadrive and japan n64 best things i ever bought if a megadrive game i like is really good like a hack like the md MK1 arcade edition hack i will burn it down to an eprom and make a repro cart, with mk1 i bought a second copy of the original and just swaped out the eprom so it looks official, i do still have a mighty collection of games for megadrive, snes and n64 oh and Japan PS2 but collecting games is not my number one priority anymore sure if a game comes along that is cheap ill nab it, most of my hard earned goes into buying retro acrade pcbs from the 80s an 90s you can luckily still buy pcb cheap.
I just grabbed a few Genesis games from the ma and pop shop near me, including Sub Terrania. Looking forward to that. Probably heard of it from here.
8:44 Wow, where did you get all those Pirates of Dark Water? Would love a copy! 👀👀
Other questions…why is Lotus II packaged with Lotus 1?
Also 9:48 I bought Revolution X in its blister pack. So are you saying distributors repackaged Acclaim games in blister packs going as far as printing the logo on the packaging?
Since 1990? Respect my dude. Great tips and advice. Thanks a lot! I really appreciate it. You know your stuff for sure.
I'm honestly more of a "Get a MISTER FPGA" and get it alltogether type of guy cause i honestly don't have the space nor the intention to do a collection of retro consoles
Отличный канал! Каждый ролик смотрится на одном дыхании, нам очень повезло расти в эпоху Mega Drive
prices are insane in Australia it costs more to buy a Mega CD than a PS5
OMFG Megadrive games are not worth these prices
this guy is a rip off scammer causing hyper inflation
just buy a multicart from aliexpress with all games ever made for it on them
Yo he restaurado hace unos meses mi antigua Sega Genesis / Mega drive y la estoy disfrutando muchísimo.congratúlations…from Chile
Great collection. I noticed no mention of the mega cd karaoke. It works with the cd+g format. Discs are still available.
