battles inspired by Super Mario RPG? i'm sorry WHAT? As a big fan of LISA, i've never heard that comparison, and i don't think it applies. LISA's combat system is more inspired by fighting games than any other rpg with the string of button pushes for combo moves, there's no timed hit mechanics like in SMRPG, at all. The closest thing to that is in Joyful, but even there it's not a 1 to 1 comparison either. A big swing and a miss, there.

Not even close to a Super Mario RPG comparison. Austin Jorgensen, the creator of this game is a massive Earthbound fan and has stayed the it was the main inspiration for the art style and combat.
