I too was weird about Forgotten Valley's strange population and layout until I realized it's exactly how a lot of the "Towns" and small communities that exist in Unincorporated land in California.

I know there are Unincorporated and even unclaimed land in the UK (mostly Scotland) and I am aware that in Japan, the creators of this game are from, doesn't have any Unincorporated land but let me paint a picture.

Large swaths of California and across the US are not claimed by any municipality but instead governed by the county level, sometimes even the state level.
A lot of people move out to unincorporated land: lower taxes, cheaper land, less restrictions, less laws, less oversight, etc. Then a lot of little ( and not so little communities) develop in these places, and they have a lot of similar features, the Rich build mega mansions because there's no city councils to stop them right next to historically poor neighborhoods that are there because the city proper was too expensive, large open lots, weirdly shaped lots because there is no city laws to plan lot size ;certain dangerous, hazardous, or unpleasant facilities such as waste or trash (historically some cemeteries were supposed to "outside of town") ; largely social services being provided by the next proper municipality or in conjunction with the county or a private contractor, and usually some sort vague legal/historical precedent why the community never incorporated, fucking weirdos, and a maybe a vague mayor-ish/city council, usually the assigned Sheriff tot he area.oh and farms so many farms, as farms are usually too big to fit inside of a cities boundaries.

So Forgotten Valley has all the Hallmarks of Riverside/Santa Barbara/San Diego County, unincorporated community: Small Population, Farms, fucking weirdos, hazardous externalities to a proper city, no actual, local government or social service(no mayor or city council)- or even trade as Takhatai has to go Mineral Town marketplace, a rich dude with his mega mansions on a hill, and varying lot sizes.

It even got the local homeless dude and the Mountains.

Hey Sharky! Molly did like the flowers you offered her, but because she was at work she couldn't accept them. Try again when she is just wandering around.

If I remember rightly, this one played with the concept of giving your crops space.
Take note that the NPC Farms are in X patterns. Apparently doing this gives better grades. Quality over Quantiy and all that…

EDIT: HAH They at least gave Lumina a growth spurt from the get go now.
For those that didn't know, Lumina was not a romance option in the ORIGINAL Gamecube version, was a Kid sized model or at least noticibly shorter then the MC, and was just another NPC. In the PS2 Special Edition, they introduced Lumina as a Romance option but didn't really change her model and left her as a same sized model for the first chapter.
Least in this version she is the right height fromt he get go and is about the same as your MC…

For the two plots of land on your farm, does one have a higher fertility to start out with?

Really liked the review, I just have a questio, when you get older, you start the game all over again or you get to be your kid and continue to take care of your farm, or do you take care of your farm being forever "old"? Thanks!!!

I've played many SoS/Harvest Moon games (my fav was mineral town on game boy) I've actually never played this one though so even though I'm a veteran of farm sim games it'll be my first time playing this one and I'm excited even though I know many of the spoilers I don't really know how they happen. I hear that if you don't marry before the end of chapter 1 you get proposed to by the one who likes you most. I'm planning to play and gett proposed to instead of picking someone.

I freaked out when I saw your video and realized they remade this game. I got this game for my 10th birthday as a child and was beginning to worry with the Harvest Moon/Story of Season remakes that it'd never be remade. I had the special edition and as a kid didn't realize you had to propose/didn't propose in time, so Celia approached me and asked me to marry her. (I had the special edition where you could only be male/have a wife.)
As is tradition afterwards in all future gameplays as I'd replay it, growing up, I would give her flowers and correct my actions in making sure I always proposed to her so, with that said, I think my vote is obvious, I'd vote for Celia or… Now Cecelia. ;3;

P.S. I'm glad to see they fixed the horrible framerate drops the game would sometimes have, lol. They butchered some of the characters designs though, what happened to my man, Cody? x'D Also noooo Murrey changed, he no longer says "Moi". I kinda miss the hungry homeless gremlin. He scared me as a kid but growing up I just felt bad for him and would give him food. (They also aged up Lumina to her second-year model from the get-go, it looks like. My guess to dodge the problems they had before with the American release scaring people thinking she was WAY too young to court. I liked the scene where if she and Celia have high hearts, she could actually get jealous of Celia. I had no idea she could be so vicious, and it surprised me.)

hey sharky, in this game you no longer need to take items and keep them in the bag, you only need to take one item and take another one when you hold it, as long as the item is still the same as the item you are holding. like, when you take a flower you only need to take one and take the other without you needing to save it in the bag first

I'm going for molly or lumina as i already went with celia, nami, and muffy in the first one. And since muffy was my first choice when i played it the first time, i got to either give her a chance or go for lumina. Since i never played the ps2 version that included her.
